Here is a message from his daughter & son:

Friends and Family of Joel – This is Dana and Craig, Joel’s children, posting on his behalf. We want to share with his greater community that Joel passed away today. He’d been living with cancer for quite some time, and then suffered a stroke on Sunday. This morning he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children and siblings.

While he was Dad to us, he was so many other things to so many of you. He loved people, and so many people loved him right back. He loved to entertain a crowd, and immersed himself in playing and performing music for the last several years of his life. The only thing he may have loved more than music, were the friends and family that he got to share it with. Oh – and laughter. Dad loved to crack ya up.

We’ll be celebrating Joel’s life this Thursday, October 12th at 10am at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Simi Valley (6150 Mount Sinai Drive, Simi Valley, CA 93063). All are welcome. For anyone who would like to attend but is unable to be there in person for any reason, the service will also be live-streamed online. Email Dana at danarobyn@gmail.com for the link and password.

There will be a reception at Joel’s home following the funeral on Thursday. You are also welcome to come visit our home any time during the 7 days of shiva that follow.

Thank you again for loving our dad, and for holding us in your thoughts as we grieve and adjust to this new life without him.
