SONGMAKERS’ MEMORIAL DAY KENNEY GROVE CAMPOUT

A Songmakers’ Kenney Grove weekend campout will be held at Kenney Grove Park near Fillmore Friday through Monday May 23-26, 2008. A registration form may be printed out by clicking on the link below. Those wishing to arrive early can arrive Thursday (check in starting 12 noon Thursday and checkout by 2 PM Monday). Those not wanting to camp can come for any or all of the days by paying $5 per day at the gate.

This will be a weekend of a lot of informal song circle jamming and relaxation. However, there will be an ice cream social (bring your favorite topping) Saturday afternoon, a pot luck dinner Saturday evening, a sign up concert (acoustic) after dinner, the usual Songs of Meaning Sunday morning , and a Band Scramble Sunday evening. The ice cream social will be at 2:30 PM, the dinner will be at 5:30 PM, the concert will start at 7:00 PM Saturday. Songs of meaning will be 10-12 AM Sunday, and the Band Scramble will be at 7:00 PM Sunday.

We have not had a Band Scramble at Kenney Grove in the past but it has been done a number of times at other functions. For those not familiar with how this works, at about noon on Sunday everyone will be placed randomly in groups of about 4 or 5. Each group will be assigned a leader who will get the group together to chose, practice and perform one song at the Sunday night concert. Each group will have all Sunday afternoon to chose and practice their song. This is always a lot of fun and everyone is encouraged to participate.

Coffee will be provided Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings. Tokens for showers will be available at Kenney Grove for 50 cents each. Sally Charette will be handling reservations and in May she will provide those attending campsite assignments and additional details concerning this event.

There is no RV dump site at Kenney Grove.

Kenney Grove Park is located just outside the town of Fillmore on route 126. Take 126 West from the Interstate 5 (near Magic Mountain). Take the 126 East from the Ventura Freeway just before reaching Ventura. Just after passing Fillmore, if coming from the 5, and just before getting to Fillmore, if coming from the Ventura Freeway, you’ll see a sign for Kenney Grove Park. Follow the Kenny Grove signs from there (turn on Old Telegraph Road off the 126, then left of 7th street and right on N. Oak Ave. to the Park).
